On Dec. 6th I had the privilege of finally meeting the "Legend." Little Mikeah Legend Swan has had one amazing journey. I was so excited to finally meet this handsome little man and capture some moments for his sweet mommy and family. Here is Legends story from his Facebook page The Journey of a "Legend" .
" During Taylor's fourth month of pregnancy she was told that Legend would be born with a birth defect known as gastroschisis. Gastroschisis is a birth defect of the abdominal wall. The baby’s intestines stick outside of the baby’s body, through a hole beside the belly button. Surgery is required following birth.

From that point on, Taylor had to drive from Paris to Dallas weekly, to see several different specialist who would monitor both Taylor and Legend. As time passed Taylor's pregnancy seemed to become more and more difficult. Taylor ended up spending a little over a month (and up to the day of his birth) in the antepartum department of Medical City Dallas. They both had to be monitored day and night.
At 11:25am, Tueday November 4,2014, Mikeah "Legend" Swan was born 2.5 months early weighing 2lbs 6oz & was 15in long. Just hours after his birth Legend was taken straight to surgery. Not knowing what was in store or how many surgeries it would take to get everything back into his tiny little body, we prayed that God would have His hand in every single aspect from beginning to end. An hour later the surgerons came to inform us that the surgery was complete. It only took one surgery! They were amazed at how well he did before, during, and after his surgery. They said they had never seen a baby do that well during that kind of surgery. His heart rate never changed, his blood pressure never went up or down, his respirations never fluttered. They couldnt believe it. As time passed, God continued to keep His hand in every aspect, and Legend continued to amaze everyone. They said that after surgery he would be on a ventilator for atleast a week. WRONG. Try a day and a half! Just a day and a half after surgery Legend was extubated & taken off life support. With every passing day he amazed us all with his progress. Every day a different medication was stopped or a different line or tube was removed. Just a couple weeks into this world they were able to place a feeding tube & start feeding him. They said to expect a lot of training. over a period of many days, on how to suck before it would even be considered for him to take a pacifier or even a bottle. WRONG. Days later, as Taylor was holding him, we snuck a paci & put it in his mouth just to see what would happen. Little man went to town & was soon drinking from a bottle. He only took small amount (starting at 1ml) at a time from a bottle. They continued increasing his feedings through his feeding tube & also allowed him to have a small amout through a bottle once or twice a day. He continued progressing and amazing us all. He was gaining weight, becoming very active, and showing us all that in just a few short weeks he already had a very strong and special personality.
Just a few days after his one month birthday it became apparent that something was wrong.
On Sunday December 7, 2014 Legend was place back on the ventilator. His little tummy was so swollen that it was compressing his lungs & cutting off his air supply. The doctors ran all kinds of tests and found that he had an infection that had spread to his blood stream. They began antibiotics. The next afternoon they discovered that Legend's lower bowel was tangled and beginning to deteriorate. Monday afternoon (December 8) Legend received the second surgery in his short life. The surgerons had to remove 15cm of his intestines. In doing so they had to temporarily attach them to the outside of stomach, creating a stoma. Currently (December 9) is still in critical conditions and on the ventilator. Doctors told us that the 48 hours following surgery would determine the outcome. Well in the first 24, they have been able to turn down the vent a small bit, taken him off one of the medication that maintain his blood pressure for him, his vitals have began to stabilize, and he that personality is starting to show a little bit. He's had a problem with his heart rate being being too high and his blood pressure too low. When mommy (Taylor Howard) & daddy (Mike Swan) are talking or touching him, his vitals are the best and most even. He's begun moving a small amount again, mainly kicking his little feet, but moving. When the doctors come in, he clearly gets aggravated and his vitals go a little crazy.
He is slowly progressing but progress is progress, no matter how impatient we are. All the glory to God for the miracles He's continuously performing... for our miracle- Mikeah "Legend" Swan! "
